Home Remedies For Jaw Pain - Natural And Effective Treatment

There is no doubt that chronic jaw pain can make your life miserable and uncomfortable. In most cases, the jaw pain, also known as TMJ pain, is caused by a disorder of the temporomandibular joint or jaw joint. This is one of the most heavily used joints in the body and allows you to open and close your mouth and do activities like talking, chewing, swallowing, laughing, and yawning. So, naturally, it can affect your ability to eat, smile, talk and move your jaws. Several factors can contribute to the development of temporomandibular joint disorder, including stress, arthritis, trauma or blow to the jaw, muscle spasm, fibromyalgia, and chronic fatigue syndrome.

It can also be caused by teeth grinding while sleeping, dental problems, sinus and ear infections, migraine headaches, or overuse of the jaw. This condition often can be remedied by using certain home remedies for jaw pain. If you have jaw pain, it is very important to give rest to your jaw. Avoid eating hard foods like nuts, dried fruits, bacon, fruits with thick skins, and raw vegetables. You should stay away from sticky and chewy foods, chewing gum, and yawning with mouth fully open. Try to eat soft foods like mashed potato, well-cooked vegetables, yogurt, banana, fruit and vegetable juices, milk, oatmeal, eggs, and soups. Take small bites and chew slowly. Include in your diet foods that are rich in vitamin C and E and minerals like magnesium and calcium.

There are certain stretching exercises that are widely considered to be effective home remedies for jaw pain. Your doctor or physiotherapist can show you the exercises that are best for your jaw condition. Massaging is another effective home remedy for jaw pain. Gently put pressure on both sides of your jaw with the heels of your hands. If possible, slowly open and close your mouth while massaging the jaw. Repeat this many times a day. It is better to avoid deep pressure massage, as it can make the condition worse. A simple way to alleviate jaw pain is to gargle with salt warm water. A warm bath can also help you get rid of this problem. Fill a tub with warm water and dip your face into it. Make sure that your whole jaw is under the water. Doing this before going to bed can help you get a good sleep.

Hot and cold therapies are excellent remedies for alleviating the pain in the jaw. Soak two towels in hot water and place them on both sides of your jaw for about 20 minutes. You can also apply a hot water bottle wrapped in a towel to your jaw. For cold therapy, place an ice pack or frozen vegetables on the jaw for at least 10 minutes. Stress relaxation techniques like yoga, meditation, and breathing exercises are the best home remedies for the jaw pain caused by stress and anxiety. Jaw pain due to grinding or clenching of the teeth can be reduced by wearing a mouth guard while you sleep.

Home Remedies For Jaw Pain - Treat This Problem Naturally

Jaw pain mostly occurs as a result of a disorder in the temporomandibular joint, commonly known as jaw joint. This is one of the most complex joint structures in the body. It is this joint that makes it possible for you to talk, chew foods, laugh, swallow, yarn, and to move your jaw from side to side. Temporomandibular joint disorders can happen due to various factors, such as an injury or blow to the jaw, arthritis, muscle fatigue, fibromyalgia, sleep problems, and chronic fatigue syndrome. In addition to TMJ disorders, it can also be caused by dental problems, ear infections, trigeminal neuralgia, myofascial pain syndrome, and migraine.

Most kinds of jaw pain can be treated naturally using home remedies. Some lifestyle changes have been found to be highly effective to minimize or get rid of the pain in your jaw. Actually, one of the best ways to deal with the symptoms of jaw pain is to reduce the use of jaw muscles. Individuals with jaw pain are advised to eat soft foods, take bite-sized portions, and eat slowly. They can eat foods like mashed potato, eggs, cottage cheese, ground meat, juice and vegetable juices, soups, soft yogurt, banana, milk, and well-cooked vegetables, whole grains, and beans.

People who suffer from jaw pain should also avoid chewing gum, yawning with the mouth widely opened, and eating foods like sticky foods, raw vegetables, fruits, dried fruits, and seeds. It is also better to stay away from caffeinated beverages, as caffeine can make you more sensitive to pain. If your jaw pain is related to teeth grinding, wear a mouth guard while sleeping. Increasing the intake of vitamin C and vitamin E can help reduce the jaw pain associated with temporomandibular disorders. Massage is one of the home remedies. Softly massage the jaw bones on both sides of your face with two fingers.

Heat and cold therapies are considered as excellent home remedies for jaw pain. It is recommended to alternate heat and cold to speed up the pain-relieving process. Apply cold on both sides of the jaw for at least ten minutes. You can use frozen vegetables or ice cubes covered in cheesecloth as cold compress. Apply heat therapy for about 20 minutes. Steep a towel in warm water, squeeze it out, and then place it over your jaw. Heat therapy is beneficial to improve blood circulation to the jaw and to unwind the jaw muscles. A hot water bottle wrapped in a towel can also be used to apply heat.

Stretching exercises are also good home remedies for this pain. Open your mouth until you feel your cheek muscles stretching. Keep your mouth in that position for about 30 seconds. Then, slowly close your mouth. Repeat this exercise for three to five repetitions. Gargling with warm salt water is another effective natural remedy for jaw pain. It reduces the pain by relaxing jaw muscles and nerves. Taking a warm bath is also a great way to alleviate the pain in jaw.
