Do Home Remedies for Blackheads Work?

Most of us suffer from blackheads. Young and old alike. Blackhead is a common skin problem. Blackheads occur as tiny bumps on the skin when the pores of the skin are clogged. The pores are clogged with impurities resulting from excess oil secretion and dead cells. They become black in color due to the reaction with oxygen. Blackheads usually occur in places where there are excessive oil glands. Places usually affected are the face, back and chest. On the face the nose is most commonly affected area.

Blackheads as stated above are caused by oily skin. Another reason for the occurrence of blackheads is pollution. The impurities in the air clog our skin. Unhygienic habits also cause blackheads. It's also caused by conditions of stress and unhealthy eating habits. Presence of toxins in the body also results in blackheads on the skin.

Blackhead is different than acne. Oily skin attracts dirt resulting in clogging of the pores. If this gets infected with pus, it may form into a pimple which may result in acne.

1. Lemon: The most common home remedy for blackheads is lemon juice. Squeeze a lemon and use its juice. The juice can be applied directly on the affected area. Do this regularly.

2. Honey: Honey can be mixed with lemon juice and then applied to the skin where the blackheads occur.

3. Almond: Almond can be crushed and made into powder. Then make a paste using little water or rosewater. Take a small amount and rub gently on the affected area. Leave it for some time and the wash. This paste works like a natural exfoliate.

4. Sugar: Another scrub can be made with sugar and honey. Mix a little of both and then scrub.

5. Tea Tree Oil: Tea tree oil can be applied to the affected area directly.

6. Fenugreek leaves: Make a paste of fresh fenugreek leaves and apply on the blackheads. Leave it on for some time and then wash.
