Indigestion or dyspepsia is a disorder characterized by impaired digestion or the process of breaking up of food to supply energy to the body. Indigestion originates in the upper gastrointestinal tract consisting mainly of stomach and initial part of small intestine. When indigestion occurs, the gastrointestinal functions are thrown out of order giving rise to symptoms like upper abdominal pain, abdominal bloating, nausea, vomiting, belching, loss of appetite, abdominal distention, early satiety etc. Indigestion, in common parlance, is also often referred to as stomach upset. The causes of indigestion may be listed as follows:

Home Remedies for Indigestion
1. Dissolve 2-3 teaspoons of cinnamon powder in a glass of water. Drink the solution 1 hour after lunch or dinner to get rid of indigestion.
2. Drink warm lemon water 3-4 times a day to check indigestion.
3. Mix 1-2 teaspoon coriander, 2-3 cardamom seeds, 2-3 pieces of clove and 1 teaspoon grated ginger. Take the mixture daily to do away with indigestion.
4. Drink homemade ginger tea after lunch to get relief from indigestion.
5. Dissolve 1 tablespoon baking soda in half glass water and drink. This gives instant relief from abdominal pain and indigestion.
6. Add 2-3 teaspoons of fresh coriander juice to a glassful of buttermilk and drink. This cures indigestion.
7. Pour 2-3 drops of cider vinegar in to half glass water and drink 1 hour before lunch. This checks indigestion.
8. Chew 3-4 Aniseeds. This prevents indigestion.
9. Consume papaya in ample amount to cleanse stomach and enable easy digestion.
10. Take half glass pineapple juice before meals to solve indigestion problem.
11. Consume 1 tablespoon carom seeds mixed with a pinch of rock salt. This is an effective indigestion cure.
12. Mix 1 tablespoon lemon juice and 1 tablespoon curry leaf juice and add some sugar to the mixture. Drink the mixture to get cured of indigestion.
13. Dissolve coriander leaf juice and a tablespoon cumin seeds in to a glass of water. Add a pinch of salt and drink. This solution relieves indigestion.
14. Rubbing a mixture of garlic oil and Soya oil on abdomen is a useful indigestion remedy.
15. Application of ice bag on stomach 30 minutes after meals tackles indigestion problem effectively.
