Peptic Ulcer Causes and Home Remedies

Peptic ulcer may be defined as the erosion and corrosion of the inner lining of stomach or duodenum or esophagus by the acids that aid in digestion. When acid level increases, it consumes or eats up at the lining, drilling holes and thus creating sores or ulcers. It is a common disease pertaining to the craze for fast foods these days. The ulcers are usually 0.5 cm deep. There may be one ulcer or multiple ulcers. Stomach ulcers are called gastric ulcers and those occurring in duodenum are called duodenal ulcers; and both the types are jointly named as peptic ulcer.

At times ulcers are formed and also get healed up on their own, without the patient even knowing of it. The symptoms of peptic ulcer include indigestion, abdominal burning sensation, upper abdominal pain and frequent hunger pains. Sometimes an ulcer may bleed resulting in the passing of dark, tarry stool. The patient may also suffer from insomnia, flatulence, weakness and mental tension. It is seldom cancerous. It is diagnosed by means of endoscopies. The causes of peptic ulcer may be listed as follows:

1. Eating spicy, junk food items

4. Food poisoning
5. Smoking
